So I think we've already established that I make art and graphics of a happy nature when I am upset and of a sad nature when I am not... let's just say I was -ecstatic- today.

The Trans Day of Remembrance is on November 20th and commemorates transgender murder victims and other trans people who died because of peoples bigotry. The base picture is Sylvia Guerrero, the mother of her transgender daughter Gwen Araujo whose picture she is holding. Also pictured are Rita Hester (her murder date is when Trans Day of Remembrance is held), Brandon (usually known in the trans community as "Brandon Teena" although I don't think he ever used that name so I usually don't), and Robert Eads who died of ovarian and cervical cancer because no doctors would treat him.

Murder. The worst kind of murder. :( I never knew this day existed, though; in that, I thank you. Do you mind if I post a link on my own LJ and dA journal? Sometimes I think this kind of murder over steps any other - it's a murder premeditated and carried out on people who are known to be innocent. :(

:blowkiss: ...to those who died due to bigotry...

:tombstone: Everyone comes out a winner in the end.
Gwen...why is it tragedy that brings the important issues to light? Nobody should have to die for being who they are.
Nobody SHOULD have to die for simply living their own lives, but people DO die for these reasons, because people cannot handle what they don't understand, and then they massacre it without a moment's notice.

Tragedy is what enlightens people most of all, because only when they've lost someone who was important to their lives do they realize that it should and could have been averted.

On the other hand, I'm sure there are people who would love to watch a transperson die, and these individuals, in my mind, are truly evil.

in mine too. Being who you are, who you need to be is not a crime. Yet some people (and Iuse the term for another human loosely) believe that it is, that it's their #(*&% business what we do with our bodies and our lives.
Murder, on the other hand, IS a crime.
